Hello, Ms. Kobayashi.
When there’s a game that you absolutely want to win, you tense up. My question is: what do top professionals, including yourself, do to calm yourselves. If there’s any special technique, please tell me. |

The tension of a serious game is something that you can’t experience elsewhere. I rested from official games for half a year for the birth of my first child, and when I played my first comeback game the other day I realized how much I like the atmosphere of serious competition. So in my case it’s not so much a question of calming myself as of enjoying the tension.
Even so, the atmosphere just before a game begins is something special. When I first played in a title match or appeared on NHK, I was so tense that my hands were trembling. I don’t know of any technique for overcoming this, but ever since I was an insei I have naturally got into the habit of meditating before a game. This helps me to switch spontaneously from the real world to a nonreal (game) mode.
I don’t know if my answer is of any use to you, but I hope you will try meditating. It may help you.
