Born in California on May 25, 1963. Disciple of Oeda Yusuke. Became an insei (professional trainee) in 1977, made professional 1-dan in 1981, promoted to 2-dan in the same year, 3-dan in 1983, 4-dan in 1984, 5-dan in 1985, 6-dan in 1988, 7-dan in 1990, 8-dan in 1996, and 9-dan in 2000. Won all his games and took 1st place in Section 2 of the 1984 rating tournament. Won the Ryuen Cup in 1985. Won all his games and took 2nd place in the 1st section of the rating tournament in 1989. Took 2nd place in the NEC New Stars tournament in 1990. Came 2nd in the King of the New Stars tournament in 1992. Came 2nd in the 7-dan section of the Kisei tournament in 1993.
