For a long time, Rui Naiwei Sensei reigned as the world's top woman player. I looked up to her, and she was my target. The game I am introducing here was the first official game I played with her in a world championship. Although I was tense, I think that the game was also very enjoyable for me.

I had black. In the opening, White took territory everywhere and my play was slack. The cut of 91 and attachment of 93 were do-or-die moves. I made up a bit of lost ground in this engagement.

When I started a ko fight in the centre, I thought that I also had something to look forward to, but just then I went into byo-yomi and lost speed . . . Rui Naiwei Sensei played calmly and wrapped up a win.

I still remember the aura I felt when I was sitting across from her at the Go board, the rigorousness with which she played. I haven't played her since this game, but I hope I get another opportunity to challenge her.
