Hello, Ms. Nakajima. I always watch you on NHK TV. The level of professional games is too high, so I don’t understand many of the moves, but, thanks to the commentary, I can get some idea of what’s going on. Do you feel that you have learned something by working with various professional commentators? Do you have any particular memories of the NHK Cup?

Hello, Mr. Ishida. Thank you for always watching the NHK program.
I try to draw out interesting comments from the commentator (though I don’t always do a good job) to make the program more interesting for the spectators. I am often quite impressed by the comments I hear.
Of course, I can learn about individual moves from the commentary, but I can also learn about the psychology of a game, what the players are trying to do and what their strategy is, that is, the mental side of how players approach the game. I can learn important things about the mind, skill, and execution.
I have too many memories of the NHK Cup, so the second question is difficult. There are many splendid games, but the games of Cho Chikun are so moving that I forget to do my job of MC. In a final, in particular, he put his whole body and soul into the game. He made me feel that go had unlimited possibilities, and was free and unpredictable! All kinds of thoughts ran through my head and I felt really glad that I played go.
Mr. Ishida, I hope that you continue enjoying go (^^). |
