Hello, Ms. Kato.I enjoy playing go regularly, mainly on Pandanet. When I’m playing on the Net, I often get into losing streaks, so I immediately drop down 1 or 2 kyu. It’s takes a really long time to get back to my former rank. At such times, I really feel wretched. Do you ever suffer from a losing streak? Please tell me how one should cope mentally at such times. |

Hello, Mr. Nakamura.
I do have losing streaks. At the beginning of this year, I was losing a lot more games than I was winning.
I felt that if I didn’t laugh about it I would cry.
Results are, of course, important, but one shouldn’t become too preoccupied with them. Instead, one should focus on enjoying playing go.
There’s no limit to the variations in go. It’s a really interesting game, I think.
Incidentally, I don’t recommend playing a lot of games at one go. You sometimes get a negative momentum that causes you to keep losing.
I think you will get stronger if you play just one or two games a day but play with concentration. |
