I have recently joined PandaNet and started playing go. Something that really upsets me is that I often suffer invasions at the 3-3 point and don’t know what to do about them. Is there a good way of dealing with this invasion? |

Thank you for your question, Mr. Saito.
Since you mention 3-3 invasions, I assume you are referring to handicap games – because if you were playing even games, you could avoid the problem by playing on the 3-4 or 3-3 points yourself.
Having a stone on the star point doesn’t mean you can count the corner as your territory. However, if the opponent invades at the 3-3 at an early stage, you get to build outside influence and can be satisfied; if he approaches from the outside, then you secure the corner territory.
Even so, 3-3 invasions remain possible until quite a late stage in the game, but having the opponent invade doesn’t mean you get a bad result.
If you really want to stop the 3-3 invasion, how about playing the iron pillar when the opponent makes a small-knight approach move? This defends the corner solidly and it’s easy to understand, so I recommend it.
I wish you the best of luck in your games. |
