How do you do, Chinen Sensei? I get even results playing as 1-dan, but sometimes I get into a slump, losing five games or so in a row, and at these times I get the feeling that no matter how hard I try I can’t win. How can someone like me get out of a slump? |

Hello, Mr. Shoda. Thank you for your question.
I’m sure that if you can get even results as a 1-dan you are enjoying your go. I really understand what you say about losing confidence when you get into a slump. You have no confidence in the individual moves you play and you feel anxious and insecure.
My recommendation is to play through repeatedly the winning games of a professional you like. (Personally, I like playing over Cho Chikun’s games.) The feeling of wanting to win is important, but I think it’s also important to resolutely play the moves that fit your own style.
I hope my advice is of some help to you when you fall into a slump. I’m sure you’ll soon go up to 2-dan.
Please keep playing hard and enjoying go. |
