question2
At present, I am stuck around the level of 10- or 11-kyu on PandaNet. When I am playing opponents around the same strength I repeatedly get extreme results: I either resign or the opponent resigns. I’m worried that if this is the way I play I won’t be able to get stronger in the future. I would like to become able to consistently play games in which the result is, I won’t say within five points either way, but let’s say ten points either way. Can you give me any advice about a good way to practise or the right way to think about go? I would be grateful for any help you can give me.

Hello, Mr. Iino. Thank you for your question.

You seem to be worried about the large number of games you play that end in resignations, but at this stage there is no need at all for you to worry about this.

I think that go style also plays a part. My guess is that you play very strongly and that you are good at reading. Reading ability is important in the middle game and the endgame.

How about focussing on developing your strong point by studying (simple) life-and-death problems? And playing actual games, of course. As you get stronger, the number of close games will naturally increase. There is nothing for you to worry about.

If you can read well, your endgame will also be strong. One piece of advice I can give you is to make an effort to look at the whole board. Players who are strong at fighting have a tendency to concentrate on just one part of the board.

I envy you your large number of resignations. Please keep enjoying go.
