Getting Started

After clicking on the Connect to IGS-PandaNet button, the following progress window will open.

The following five windows will appear on your desktop:
Main window, Telnet window, Rooms window, and Friends window. Also, the Window Bar will appear.

From the Main window you can navigate by clicking on the buttons to either play or observe games, restart an adjourned game or replay a saved game, change your password or configure your game conditions, or check your results. You can also open the Chat window.

The Telnet window can be used to enter IGS-PandaNet commands directly onto the command line, instead of using the graphic interface. IGS-PandaNet has many features not available from the graphic interface by clicking on buttons. For more commands and details about their use, please visit the Commands page.

The Telnet window has four options on the tool bar, Clear the window, Accept match, AYT, and Check network speed. Clear the window does just that, removes all text from the Terminal window. Note that the Terminal window has a very small history buffer, and will clear itself when the buffer is full. Accept match is a toggle for being open for playing, your status is indicated on the drop-down menu, and in the bottom left corner of the Main window. AYT means "are you there", and is for checking on the status of your connection, and Check network speed measures the time it takes for packets to traverse the Internet from your computer to the IGS-Pandanet server.

IGS-Pandanet has Rooms and Channels. When you first enter IGS Pandanet, you are in the main room by default. Most of the players will be in the main room. There are many rooms, but the Rooms window only lists a few. To see all the rooms, use the Telnet window above and enter the word room. To see this manual click on how to.

The Friends window can be used to instantly check on a friend or another player. Add players to the list by clicking on the Add friend button. Afterwards click on a selected name for more options. Once you have entered players to your Friends list, the icon next to the player's name indicates that player's current status, disconnected, connected, observing, or playing. Right-clicking the player's name gives you a pop-up menu with options for interacting with that player. There is also a status alert that appears in the bottom right corner of the monitor screen whenever the status of anyone on your Friends list changes.

The Window Bar is a convenient tool for navigating between windows.
