Q&A of Yuki Shigeno 2 dan
The question 1 this month
When a group of stones dies, I feel as if I've suffered a terrible loss. It takes a lot of courage to let a group die, to sacrifice a group, and I'd prefer not to do it.
Do you have any advice about how I could change my way of thinking?

It's sometimes said that if you are able to sacrifice stones, you're a real go player, but making a sacrifice is very difficult. The aim is to make profit from the sacrifice, so you need the ability to read ahead and flexibility. How about playing through professional games, in which you often see sacrifices, or in which a player makes a profit through trading off a dead group? Playing through professional games will reveal a new way of thinking, which you will be able to make use of in your own games. It's certain that if you learn how to sacrifice, go becomes more more and more interesting. Do your best.
